Monsters

There are many monsters in this world.

They do not have sharp teeth,
furry skin,
long claws,
or veiny eyes.

They do not come from alien worlds,
from under the earth,
or from inter-dimensional portals.

No.

They live next to you.

They present themselves
as humble victims
of people’s betrayals
and this life’s misfortunes.

They appear as perfect mirrors,
making you believe
that they are your soulmate,
and once you’re hooked,
they start destroying
every bit of beauty, talent, light
and life force you’ve got.
Nothing remains,
not even ashes.

That’s their food.

That’s their nature.

When a monster unalives you,
you don’t go after them
asking “why did you hurt me?
that wasn’t fair,
I didn’t deserve it”.
No.
You just run for your life.

But some of us have an unusual,
often inconvenient courage
that doesn’t fear death.

We go towards the spears
to see how much death we can take
without dying.
To remember
how much love we hold.

Accept the monster.

Because the monster
has a peculiar way of loving you,
by hurting you,
by showing you
your own love,
carried within.

Their weapon is hurt and death.
Our weapon is love and life.

We both awaken each others.

Or we both kill each others.
